Eighth-grader Matt Gaffney went for 21 points, draining four 3-pointers in his first career start for Austin Prep (1-1) in a 73-57 victory over Catholic Central foe Bishop Stang. Declan Markey had 29 points for the Spartans.
BOYS HOCKEY
Joe Kranefuss had a hat trick for Stoneham but Melrose stole a point as Brendan Fennell scored with 33 seconds left and the goalie pulled to forge a 4-4 tie in the Middlesex League.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Maddie Mosca scored twice, including the game-winner with less than a second to play, as Marshfield edged Cohasset/Hanover with a 3-2 victory in the Patriot League.
Shannon Nagy had a pair goals for Bishop Fenwick (2-0) in a 4-2 win over Archbishop Williams in the Catholic Central League.
