book bag on the contrary02/23/2007 If you’re a student, from elementary school to graduate school, you’re probably carrying around a whole lot of books. Though college students have always been afflicted with heavy book loads, studies have been showing that elementary, middle school, and high school students are being saddled with more homework and more books than ever before. Some students have even started complaining of back problems, and usually these problems can be traced back to heavy and ill-fitting book bags. So, if you want to carry around books, especially a lot of books, in comfort, then you’re going to want a quality book bag. I'm glad you found my article. Sit back and relax and I believe you will learn a thing or two We’re all familiar with the standard backpack-style book bag; they’ve been the most common book bags in schools for years. The backpack is nice because it allows you to carry a large number of books relatively easily, evenly distributing the weight between the shoulders and along the center of the back. However, most of these backpacks, especially the more inexpensive models marketed to young children, don’t have the support to adequately carry a large number of heavy books. Many of them are often ill-fitting as well, placing a great deal of weight and stress onto the shoulders and upper back. Higher-quality book bags will have adjustable hip belts which will, if properly fastened and adjusted, will take the bulk of the weight off of the shoulders and relocate it to the waist, where the weight causes less strain although it is true. Another problem with backpack-style book bags is that they don’t allow access to the contents of the bag while the bag is being carried on the shoulders. This is particularly bothersome if you spend a lot of time on buses or trains and want to get at books, CD players, or other items in your book bag. One nice alternative is a messenger-style book bag which consists of a large bag attached to one shoulder strap instead of two. These book bags have large openings and can be carried either off of one shoulder or across the body, making it easy to get at the contents of the bag at any point. The large opening flap also makes it easy to fit large books or bulky items inside. However, since all of the weight of the bag is only supported by one shoulder, regardless of how you wear the bag, it is less comfortable to carry heavy items in a messenger style book bag than it is to carry them in a well-designed backpack while this may be true. We have come to the end of my informational article. It's now your job to take this information and do something with it. Good luck and thanks for visiting. |
