I have used a dry erase board in countless presentations for the agency I work for and I have nothing but good things to say about them. When the dry erase markers are brand new, they are wonderful. They glide across the dry erase board effortlessly and they leave a bright, clear line. After a few weeks, the markers start to wear out. We do use them very often, so this makes sense. But when they start to wear out, they just completely stop working on the whole. The dry erase markers usually stop working when I have an important presentation that requires a lot of clarifying notations. I spend hours creating just the right notes for the presentation. I think about what points are crucial to the theme of the presentation and which terms I want to highlight on my precious dry erase board. I spend days rehearsing witty remarks that outline the concepts I am writing on the dry erase board. Then the day comes and squeak; no good marker to be found without warning. This is not to suggest that there is fault in the dry erase board itself. Even with the obstacle of the fickle dry erase markers, a dry erase board is far superior to the traditional blackboard found in many classrooms even today. I know this because I used to teach simply stated. I absolutely hated the classroom chalkboard. The chalk dust was everywhere. I even wore it home on many days. And the well-known chalkboard screech when you strike the chalk the wrong way is just unbearable. In addition, the chalkboard needed to be washed every day. I also hated the smelly sponge that was used to wash the board, especially when it dried into a hard sponge-rock. A dry erase board never needs to be washed. It simply needs to be erased and the chore is complete to begin with. In the future, I am going to collect several extra dry erase markers. I am going to have a brand new one with me for each and every important presentation that I deliver at work. It is a small price to pay considering the superior quality and convenience of the dry erase board over the traditional chalkboard. The investment will be worth the peace of mind in similar fashion.
