Marblehead has been on the doorstep of postseason glory several times in recent years.
Could this be the year the Magicians break through?
All-Scholastic quarterback Josh Robertson and standout running back Connor Cronin lead a solid group of returning players for Marblehead. Another team with a star signal-caller back in the fold is Milton, who should again be among the best teams in the Bay State Conference.
In the Patriot League, Plymouth South comes off an impressive season in Fall 2 thanks to the exploits of freshman running back Casious Johnson. Hanover feels it has the pieces in place to make some noise.
Quarterback Tyler DeMattio played a large part in North Attleboro‘s march to an undefeated season. Stoughton lost a lot of talent, but Greg Burke’s teams always to seem to reload rather than rebuild. Manny Lopes has Norwood heading in the right direction and the Mustangs should be a force in the Tri-Valley League Large.
In Div. 4, there will be a definitive Patriot League flavor at the top. Matt Landolfi takes over a Duxbury program which has dominated the league for more than a decade, but upstart Scituate is fully capable of challenging the Dragons.
Middleboro won the South Shore League title in Fall 2 and returns a host of players. Keep an eye on Danvers out of the Northeastern Conference, another team with some quality players back.
Melrose enters the season proud owners of the state’s longest active winning streak at 21, but the Red Raiders will get tested by Reading in the season opener. Wilmington is poised to have one of its better season in years with several All-League players back.
Holliston and Ashland should be among the better teams in the Tri-Valley League. The depth of this division is such that quality programs such as Tewksbury and Wayland reside in the bottom part of the top 10 in the Boston Herald preseason Div. 4 poll.
